@TimJayas I think we could ship absolutely nothing and be fine. But we will ship pretty insane things instead.

Perhaps I shall try to explain. There are significant differences between the 6.1 generation and prior models and therefore the optimal defaults are different between GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. And even for 6.1 Sol we wanted to be careful with the change and make sure we felt good about the results. We do now and therefore we changed it.

@AbdoKerdawy We made it cheaper and tuned it to the new recommended level. You can always change settings, but defaults exist for a reason.

The results of this poll has gotten me confused. I definitely thought it would sway much more favorably in the 2X direction across Pro 100/200/500 at the cost of bringing back 5h limits in order to smoothen the demand curve. https://t.co/zwn7kboMhT

With this change, we are not charging long context fees for GPT-6.1 Sol when drawing usage from the subscription.

Day 7/ We have increased default context length for GPT-6.1 Sol to 500k when used through Codex & Work, up from 272k or an ~ 80% increase. We will go higher in the future, but it helps reduce occurrence of compactions and with tasks that require keeping a lot of context and nuance over periods of time. It was carefully tested and is the new sweet spot for most of our users. You can still override it if you want to be higher our lower, with maximum context length of GPT-6.1 Sol of 1M.

@rohit3a Folks. Why do you think we picked 300k for context length for Codex. We ran the numbers and it’s better. We can run it at 1M too but it would just cost more of the usage. Good defaults are important.

Day 4/ We have improved steering to be instant, leading to the model now reacting much faster to adjustments you make, allowing you to course-correct direction in realtime and not have the model waste effort. Also releasing GPT-6.1 Sol ultrafast. The two work very well together.

Questions people ask

Tibo is Thibault Sottiaux, who works on Codex at OpenAI and posts on X as @thsottiaux. He is the person who announces, and often personally triggers, the goodwill resets of Codex usage limits. His timeline is usually where a reset is first confirmed, so this site follows it minute by minute; a few landed before he posted.

About Tibo

Tibo is Thibault Sottiaux, who works on Codex at OpenAI. He writes on X as @thsottiaux about models, features and bugs, many times a day, and he is the one who announces, and often decides, the goodwill resets of Codex usage limits.

A Tibo reset is a global refill of Codex usage limits that he announces on X: the weekly window of every eligible account, and the 5-hour window on plans that have one, go back to full at once. It is a goodwill gesture, not a schedule. His post is usually the first notice, though a few resets showed up in usage meters before he posted.

Why the resets happen

  • To make up for an incident or a release that went badly.
  • To celebrate a milestone, such as a new user record.
  • To thank people after a launch, sometimes by public vote.
